It is our utmost pleasure and honour to hold TAIKO Charity Concert this evening for the establishment of the Shiraho Coral Reef Conservation Centre in the presence of Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Takamado.
It is said that at present, there are about 100,000 people enjoying playing Taiko in Japan. This popularity is due to the increasing interest among young people and it is now well-accepted as one of the cultural activities within the local communities.
Japan Taiko Federation established in 1979 and supported by the Japan Music Foundation, encompasses 709 TAIKO groups with the membership of about 20,000 people. Today's performance is by the teams representative of the Federation. We hope that the performance will enhance your interest and understanding of the TAIKO.
